A familiar look?
I guess it will not be any surprise that the Xiaomi Mi 8 looks similar to the iPhone X. Many models offer similar stylistics and it seems that just such a stylistic language is just desirable by customers, so the company has also followed this path. I think, however, that it is time for them to focus on greater independence from others.
Naturally, the screen has an indentation at the top, but one should also not forget about the relatively large frame at the bottom. You can see delicate savings in this element. However, I was most interested in the display – in this matter, we had a huge progress, which was also awaited by the fans. This time, we finally received a panel made in Super AMOLED technology. It has a diagonal of 6.21 inches, Full HD + resolution (2248 x 1080 pixels) and a ratio of 18.7: 9. It fills about 83% of the front surface of the smartphone and covers the DCI-P3 color palette. The manufacturer promises maximum brightness at 600 rivets.
Xiaomi Mi 8 – flagship in every element
Of course, it is driven by Snapdragon 845. There is no surprise here because it would be difficult to imagine that some other system would appear in it. Xiaomi boasted that their latest model achieved in the benchmark over 300,000 points. More important to us, however, is that it will have 6 GB RAM and 64, 128 or 256 GB of built-in memory.
Technical data of the processor:
CPU (lithographic process – 10 nanometers LPP, 2 MB L3 cache)
- 4 x Kryo 385 Gold (similar to ARM Cortex A75) 2.8 GHz, 256 KB L2 cache,
- 4 x Kryo 385 Silver (similar to ARM Cortex A55) 1.77 GHz, 128 KB L2 cache.
- two clusters combined into one – ARM DynamiQ technology.
- Adreno 630.
- 3 MB system cache.
ISP (image processing processor)
- Spectra 280 – one 32-megapixel camera or two 16-megapixel.
- Snapdragon X20 – download data up to 1200 Mbps, send up to 150 Mbps.
As far as cameras are concerned, we will find here a 2 x 12-megapixel module. The sensors used are probably Sony IMX363 with optical image stabilization, Dual Pixel technology, and single pixels have a size of 1.4 micrometers. There are also artificial intelligence algorithms. Apparently, they recognize over 200 different objects and scenery, thanks to which it is supposed to handle great in all conditions. It sounds beautiful, but we’ll see how it will look in practice. The conference also boasted the result obtained in tests carried out by DxO Mark. In the category of photos, he obtained 105 points, more than the iPhone X or Google Pixel 2, but in terms of video modest 88. I am afraid that the video looks quite average here. In general, it equaled in this ranking with the Samsung Galaxy S9 +.
In the front, we have a 20 Mpix camera with f / 2.0 and pixel size up to 1.8 micrometers. I expect that selfie will also work great – especially in Asia this aspect plays an important role. The Xiaomi Mi 8 is powered by a 3400 mAh battery with support for quick charging of the Quick Charge 4.0+ (in the set will be a charger compatible with Quick Charge 3.0). There will also be a fingerprint scanner on the back, facial recognition system, and LTE, also operating in the 800 MHz band (B20).
Prices for Xiaomi Mi 8:
- 6/64 GB – 2699 yuan (about INR 28,000),
- 6/128 GB – 2999 yuan (approximately INR 31,500),
- 6/256 GB – 3299 yuan (about INR 34,500).
Available color versions:
Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition – surprise
In addition to the standard flagship, an exclusive variant also appeared. It stands out with a fingerprint scanner placed in the screen (ultrasonic reader), an extensive facial recognition system (perhaps even matching Face ID from Apple) and a transparent casing. As for the next changes to the original, it will be available only in the version with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB of built-in memory. Its price is fixed at 3699 yuan (about 2110 zlotys).
MIUI 10 – what’s new?
Next, to the smartphone premier, we also met MIUI 10. The new software is to be even faster than the previous one and this time it was more focused on handling gestures, an addition introduced already in version 9.5. In addition, an intelligent assistant appeared, initially operating only in Chinese. Changes also include the appearance of the recent applications menu or the notification bar. What’s more, the company promises to improve the quality of photos taken, also on older devices.
Xiaomi Mi 8 – rivals have something to be afraid of
Honestly, we knew almost everything about the premiere on the Xiaomi Mi 8. However, you have to admit to the company that it has created a great device, especially since it costs less than competitors’ products, and at the same time it does not fall out worse in any field. High performance? Is. Large AMOLED screen? Is. Great multimedia? Are. Good price? Definitely. Now we only have to wait for this model to come officially to India.
